MCHANA: Black Stripes Shopper and Picnic Bag

Deep black?stripes adorn this versatile shopper bag with leather handles, which makes the perfect everyday handbag. These gorgeous woven shopping bags are handmade in rural Eastern Region of Kenya, and can also be used for nights away, spa days and grocery shopping.

Expertly hand woven by one of the weaving cooperative��s 45 female members, the MCHANA is made from indigenous sisal grass. These fibrous leaves go through a lengthy process of harvesting, rolling, and dyeing with soil before weaving begins.

Each of our hand woven bags come with a thank you card from?the cooperative that made your bag. Basket weaving has become a valuable additional source of income for our weavers, whose primary source of income tends to come from unpredictable subsistence farming.
