These colourful striped baskets are hand woven in five different sizes by a small Kenyan weaving cooperative, and can be used as handy storage baskets for all over the home - think fruit baskets, jewelry?baskets and desk tidies, large planters, bathroom storage and laundry baskets.?

The women who create these natural baskets have woven from a young age: this meticulous, income-generating craft is passed along the female line in Kenya. Where once these weavers would travel regularly to Nairobi to sell their woven baskets in a broad range of designs, The Basket Room now provides them with regular and fairly-paid orders, and the weavers from this cooperative are especially adept at producing our own in-house sizes and designs.

The Basket Room places regular and fairly-paid basket orders with this cooperative, empowering women to earn a flexible supplementary income in the dry seasons where subsistence farming can fail to sustain the family��s needs. To buy one of our woven baskets is to actively support the weavers�� livelihoods, and our commitment to empowering women through fair trade.?
